Phoropter Overhaul
Bring your phoropter back to like-new condition, with clear lenses, smooth movements and accurate axis readings.
Two service levels for all makes of manual phoropters, no matter where you bought yours. A loaner phoropter is included, so you can keep seeing patients. Offered by Clarion in partnership with Pacific OP, across Canada.
Is your phoropter slowing down your exams?
Phoropters are precision instruments, but they are not sealed. Over time, two problems show up in almost every unit.
Axis drift when you rotate the turret.
As a phoropter ages, the grease in its rotating assembly dries out. The axis shifts as you turn, and you lose time re-adjusting during every refraction.
Dirty lenses.
Dust, debris and lash oils find their way inside the unit and onto the accessory and high-power lenses. Even a light film reduces clarity for your patients.
Try the flashlight test. Shine a flashlight into one side of the lenses and look through the other. If you see dust, smudges or haze, your phoropter is due for an overhaul. An overhaul is recommended every 3 to 5 years.
Choose your service level
Both levels fix axis drift and dirty lenses. Every overhaul starts with a full disassembly and ends with a function check and a factory calibration.

Frequently asked questions
How often should a phoropter be overhauled?
An overhaul is recommended every 3 to 5 years to prevent axis drift and keep lenses clear.
Which service level do I need?
Most phoropters only need Level 1, our standard overhaul. Level 2 adds a complete overhaul of the cylinder banks and prism assemblies. Our technicians assess every unit: if yours would benefit from Level 2, we'll contact you to confirm before doing the work. Level 2 is always optional.
Is Level 1 just a lens cleaning?
No. Level 1 is a complete overhaul. We disassemble the entire unit and its moving assemblies (except the cylinder banks and prisms), clean the dirt and debris from the inside and moving components, clean all the lenses, re-grease and reassemble. We then check that both sides move smoothly and evenly, and perform a factory calibration.
Why does Level 2 cost more?
Overhauling the cylinder banks and prism assemblies takes an additional 4 to 6 hours of technician labour.
