Colorescience FAQs

Q: If we apply Pep-Up Pen on the skin after the compact pressed mineral, do we have to re-apply the loose/pressed minerals since the skin tends to look shiny after?

A: Yes, it is OK to re-apply loose/pressed minerals over your Pep-Up Pen application

Q: How many months should a Pep-Up Pen last?

A: Pep-Up Pen typically lasts about 2 months however the more frequently the product is used, the quicker you will go through it. Many people over use this product for single applications, for a single application around the eyes or lips you only need to click the pen one time to get the right amount of product.

Q: Many customers see the Pep-Up Pen solely as an eye cream, are there other benefits?

A: The Pep-Up Pen is great as an eye product (both under eye and on lids) but it is a great product to be used on/around the lips. When used regularly on/around the lips, the fine lines around and on the lips start to become less pronounced.

Q: What is the fragrance/smell that comes from the pep-up pen (what are the ingredients that give it its smell)?

A: There are so many wonderful ingredients used in the Pep-Up Pen, such as Tea Tree Oil, Lavender, Neroli, Lemon Grass, Chamomile and Rose. The primary purpose of these ingredients is to bring skin benefits however the aromatherapy that is released upon application is a fabulous secondary benefit.

Q: Is Pep-Up Gel best used with Sunforgettable or can it be used with any/all Colorescience foundations (loose and pressed)?

A: Pep-Up Gel can be used on its own or under/over any Colorescience mineral application.

Q: When the Pep-Up Gel is used, does primer have to be applied afterwards or can it just be used on its own? What is the difference to the skin if no primer is used after pep up gel?

A: Pep-Up Gel can be used on its own as a sheer serum to bring hydration, firming and tightness to the skin. The added benefit of using a primer after the Pep-Up gel is smoothing and soothing the texture of the skin.

Q: Should Pep-Up Gel be used over/under a moisturizer?

A: Pep-Up Gel is not a replacement for your daily skincare regime however since this fabulous product brings so many benefits to the skin, you can decrease the amount of moisturizer you apply in the morning/evening depending on when you use your Pep-Up Gel. Pep-Up Gel should be used along with a Spritzer as the first step after your skincare regime

Q: Why is Pep-Up gel tined? Does this help with coverage?

A: Pep-Up Gel has an apricot tint. This tint helps in covering browns/reds in the skin however the serum is more of a sheer apricot and so for additional coverage primer and loose/pressed minerals should be used.

Q: Why is this Chocolate Mousse best used for Acne vs. Line Tamer which covers red really well?

A: Chocolate Mousse is a great primer for acne-prone skin as it hydrates and balances. Many times, skin that is prone to acne is dehydrated and therefore produces more of its own oil to keep itself hydrated, this causes the skin to break out. Chocolate Mousse hydrates the skin and therefore keeps it balanced, reducing break outs for skin that is dehydrated by acting oily. It is more the ingredients in the product and not the tint that make it best for acne.

Q: Is Chocolate Mousse best for darker skin?

A: Don't let the tint of the product fool you. Chocolate Mousse can be used on all skin tones and textures and it is the most believable bronzer on Fitzpatrick Type I skin. The mistake that many people make is that they put too much on. Use ¼ of a pump of product for cheeks and nose, ¼ of a pump for the forehead and ¼ of a pump for chin, chest and décolleté, therefore you should not even use 1 full pump of product for your whole application.

Q: What happens to the skin when Spritzer is used after non-mineral makeup and why is it best to use it with only mineral makeup?

A: Spritzer can be used on traditional makeup and will hydrate the skin nicely however using it with mineral makeup is what speeds up the setting process of the minerals and it gives the minerals a beautify radiant glow upon application.

Q: Some people say they experience a tingling sensation when using Rise and Shine Spritzer, why is this?

A: Rise and Shine, similar to all Spritzers have very potent Achromatherapy Ingredients and antioxidants. Rise and Shine includes Pomegranate Extracts, Lime, Citrus and many more fabulous ingredients to get you awake and ready to start the day. There are some people with sensitive skin that might find the extracts in Rise and Shine to be too much for their skin, hence the "tingling sensation". For people with sensitive skin, we recommend sticking to Be Still. If you are not sure if you have sensitive skin, spray the Spritzer on the inside of your arm and let it set/dry. If you do not have any type of reaction, it should be safe to use on the face.

Q: Why is it that the hairs on my Colorescience Foundation or Sunforgettable brushes keep coming off and sticking to my face upon application?

A: The reason why bristles fall out of the brush and appear on your face could be because the brush has not been cleaned or it has not been cleaned properly and therefore the honeycomb filter which releases the minerals could be clogged. If the filter is clogged, it is harder to get the minerals to come out of the brush onto the skin and therefore you could be using more force to get the minerals out, which would cause the bristles to break off and stick to this skin.

Colorescience mineral brushes should be cleaned 1 x per week. The follow the steps below to properly clean your Colorescience brush:

  1. Spray a few pumps of Colorescience Brush Cleaner onto a clean wash cloth or gauze pad.
  2. Turn the Colorescience brush so that the bristles are facing up
  3. Massage a portion of bristles at a time upward with the dampened wash cloth to clean the brush.
  4. Add more brush cleaner to the cloth if needed to completely clean the whole brush
