Driven by the demand by baby boomers for minimally invasive cosmetic procedures, growth in Skin Tightening procedures exceeded 50% from 2004 to 2005. Skin Tightening has become the third largest segment within the U.S. aesthetic laser market. Many aesthetic laser practices are expanding to offer laser skin tightening due to increased demand.
Skin tightening procedures provide long-term wrinkle reduction and tightening effect for patients. The energy delivered to the skin tissue causes the collagen network within the skin to contract and thicken. This process, called denaturation, provides the initial results of tighter, smoother-looking skin. In addition, modification of the skin's collagen elicts the body's natural wound-healing response, initiating new collagen synthesis thereby providing long-term skin tightening.
Laser skin tightening procedures are expected to increase significantly each year through 2010 with a category growth rate of 30.7% between 2006 and 2010.
