Laser & Light Technology
Sciton Corporation (Palo Alto, CA) develops and distributes innovative, multipurpose devices for aesthetic medicine. One current product, Sciton's Joule, includes up to four proven laser wavelengths useful for light, medium or deep skin peels, high-speed computer-controlled hair reduction, nonablative skin therapy and photorejuvenation, removing leg or facial veins, telangiectasia, vascular lesions, flushing and superficial pigmented lesions. This is not a single wavelength with expansive claims, but one console housing up to four proven light sources with the highest performance in the industry. Joule has a modular design, allowing physicians to begin with a single application, adding modules in the future as the Joule of their practice changes. New innovative modules are under development at the Palo Alto, CA, headquarters of Sciton, making obsolescence a thing of the past.
Advanced Modular Technology
Sciton's first product addressed the shortcomings and combined the advantages of the CO2 and the Erbium laser, and became the standard for skin peeling and resurfacing for Plastic Surgeons and Cosmetic Dermatologists. Available now as Joule modules, doctors can offer patients a continuous range of treatments from MicroLaserPeelTM (MLP), a minimally invasive weekend peel, to a full skin resurfacing treatment with dramatic mprovement including fuller, tighter, youngerlooking skin.
Another solid-state module performs laser hair removal (LHR) at twice the speed of most competitive systems, resulting in exceptional value for owners of the Joule platform. As with the MLP and resurfacing modules, the LHR module utilizes a computer-automated treatment accessory that delivers high speed and uniform coverage of large areas of skin. A proprietary algorithm coupled to an advanced cooling device precisely scans the laser beam over the skin with minimal excess energy and maximum protection and comfort.
The vascular module allows the widest possible parameter selection, with pulses ranging from 100 microseconds to 200 milliseconds coupled to advance scanning technology, and permits effective treatment of a full range of vascular anomalies, from small lesions and flushing to leg and facial veins and telangiectasia. A recently cleared 1319 module promises to further evolve the science of photorejuvenation. For physicians
with a Joule platform, it will simultaneously be one of the lowest priced and highest performance non-ablative systems available. And, there's more to come.
